Umbrella
A 34-year-old Ocala woman was arrested on a felony criminal mischief charge after she destroyed merchandise inside a local convenience store.
On Monday, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the Murphy Express located at 178 Cedar Radial Pass in Ocala in reference to a disturbance inside the convenience store. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with a store clerk who advised that a woman, later identified as Cherelle Gabriel Gordon, was inside the store “tearing it up,” according to the arrest report.
The store clerk advised that Gordon was armed with an umbrella, and customers had left the store due to Gordon’s “erratic behavior.”
The MCSO report stated that the deputy entered the convenience store and observed Gordon actively destroying merchandise. The deputy requested that Gordon exit the store, which she refused, and the deputy noted that Gordon had to be physically removed from the premises.
As the deputy was escorting Gordon towards the exit, she continued to grab merchandise and shelves, which caused additional damage inside the store. Once outside, Gordon was detained and placed in the back of the deputy’s patrol vehicle, according to the MCSO report.
The deputy returned to the convenience store and noted in the report that damaged merchandise was scattered throughout the store. Those items included broken beer bottles, display shelves, cups, bags of chips, and candy.
The convenience store, which is typically open 24 hours a day, was forced to temporarily close to the public in order to clean the interior of the store due to the damage that was caused by Gordon. The store clerk told the deputy that two displays ($100 value/each) had been damaged by Gordon, though the exact value of the damaged merchandise was unknown at the time of the MCSO report.
A criminal history search of Gordon revealed that she has a prior conviction in Marion County for criminal mischief in 2022.
Gordon was arrested and transported to Marion County Jail where she is currently being held on $1,000 bond. She is being charged with criminal mischief with property damage of over $200 but less than $1,000 (subsequent offense).
A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
